MOMS & NEIGHBORS

Since its inception 10 years ago, Moms & Neighbors has raised more than $250,000 for teens and families in ISD 196.

We work closely with local school counselors, social workers, church advocates, and law enforcement. We want to be an additional tool in their tool box to provide local families or teens with the assistance they truly need, while respecting their privacy.

Assistance can range from grocery and gas gift cards, clothing, to payment of an overdue bill. Though what we give varies as much as our recipients’ needs, it is always rewarding and surprising to see how powerful an anonymous act of kindness can be.

If you are interested in helping this holiday season, click on the link or contact Angie Talbot, the Eastview Moms and Neighbors Kindness Ambassador.

ATHLETICS

(NEW) FALL POSTSEASON UPDATE

Here is the FINAL update on our FALL Teams and how they are doing in postseason competition as the last fall tournament concluded this weekend! No worries as all of our Winter Activities are now officially underway as of this week!

CI and PI Soccer: Congrats to the CI Dakota Hawks who advanced to the State Tournament in CI Soccer for the first time since 2014 and had quite the showing!  The CI team had a tough loss in the opening round against #1 Seed (and eventual State Champion) South Washington County.  The CI Hawks rallied for two wins on Saturday (5-2 over Park Center and 3-0 over St. Cloud) to claim the State Consolation Championship!  The CI Hawks finished the year with a 10-4 record with 3 of their 4 losses coming to the two teams who played in the State Title game.  Eastview Varsity players who were members of the State Tournament Team include: Deshawn Bascomb Collins, Thomas Christopherson, Roman Garza, Cloe Kraus, Masen Lucynski, and Heaven Young-Harry.

The PI Hawks competed in the last game of the fall season and took home the STATE CHAMPIONSHIP!  They did so in dominating fashion and finished the year 14-1.  The Hawks defeated Mounds View/Irondale/Roseville 19-0 and Minneapolis 8-1 to advance to the State Title game against St. Paul Humboldt.  Humboldt was the defending State Champs and also was responsible for the Hawks only loss on the season. The Hawks used incredible teamwork and passing along with swarming defense to defeat Humboldt 5-2 and claim the State Title!  It was the 7th for PI Soccer and 22nd overall for the Hawks program!  Eastview team members include: Will Davidson, Eddy Nelson and Daniel Sonnenberg!  Congrats Hawks!

Reminder to follow @EVHSathletics on Twitter for the up to the minute updates!  I will also keep you posted about how all of our Winter teams are doing as seasons continue to get underway and we will recognize all of our fall team and individual success at our next pep fest on December 6th!

(NEW) EASTVIEW VARSITY BOYS HOCKEY BEATS ST. THOMAS ACADEMY 3-1

The Boys Varsity Hockey team began their season with an impressive win over section rival St. Thomas Academy 3-1.  Trailing 1-0 after the first period, the Lightning answered with a goal by Josh Eernisse assisted by Cullen Johnson.  In front of a packed house full of energetic Eastview superfans, the teams skated into the third period tied 1-1.  In the final period, the squad was determined to post a “W” in front of their home crowd.  Ben Malloy (assists to Ryan Quaintance/Caden EspindaBanick) added a power play goal and then Eernisse deflected in a shot from Ben Malloy at the point for his second goal of the game to make the final 3-1.  Bennett Weestrand was phenomenal between the pipes, stopping 31 shots to earn his first victory of the season.  The Apple Auto three stars of the game against the Cadets…#3 Lightning defensemen including Caden EspindaBanick, Sam Groebner, Ben Malloy, and Jake Kemper;  #2 Bennet Weestrand in goal;  #1 star....EASTVIEW SUPERFANS!!!   The Lightning head on the road on Wednesday afternoon for a matinee tilt at the Chaska Hawks at 2pm.  #whateverittakes

(NEW) EASTVIEW HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS VARSITY HOCKEY FALLS TO ROSEMOUNT HIGH SCHOOL 6-5

Rosemount came out to play in the third period scoring four unanswered goals to force overtime and winning in extra session with a 6-5 victory over our Eastview Lightning Saturday afternoon. Avery Chesek scored three goals while Mikayla Kelley added three assists to lead the Lightning. Katherene DeBoom and Betsy Bjerke scored their first varsity goals while Lauren Speegle added an assist. The loss puts Eastview at 5-2 on the season. On Tuesday the Lightning will host Farmington at Apple Valley Sports Arena at 7:00pm.

(NEW) EASTVIEW HIGH SCHOOL BOYS JUNIOR VARSITY HOCKEY DROPS FIRST GAME 3-2 VS ST. THOMAS ACADEMY (Nov. 23)

Special teams play dominated much of the game Saturday night as four of the five goals were scored while players were in the penalty box. STA came out firing in the first period scoring the first goal of the game despite being short-handed.  While STA dominated play, Eastview junior goaltender Carter Jensen kept his team in the game stopping 19 of 20 first period shots.  Play evened up a bit in the second period as EV scored on a power play to tie the game 1-1.  Sophomore forward AJ Wagner logged the teams first goal of the season with assists going to Beau Weiland and Nathan Stephenson.  EV took advantage of yet another power play late in the second period as junior forward Matthew Schoonover found the back of the net (assisted by sophomore defenseman Ryan Moline) with just under three minutes to play giving EV a 2-1 advantage after two periods.  Unfortunately, the third period belonged to STA as they scored two goals (one even strength and one on the power play) 50 seconds apart early in the period to take a 3-2 lead.  EV had chances later in the period to tie the game but was unable to score.  Final score: STA 3, EV 2.  Total shots for the game: STA 44, EV 19.  Next up, EV travels to Chaska on Wednesday, November 27 for a noon face-off vs. the Hawks.
