Glacier Hills Elementary School of Arts & Science opened its new outdoor classroom on Friday, Nov. 7, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by students, staff, and families.
The project began with an idea from STEAM teacher Nicole Hosek, who shared her vision with the school’s Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). The PTO quickly embraced the concept and formed an Outdoor Classroom Committee to plan and fundraise for the project.
“We’re amazed at how quickly the school community came together to make this happen,” said Administrative Assistant Estelle Sukhu.
Students also played a key role in the project’s success. Glacier Hills’ fourth-grade student leadership team—now fifth graders—dedicated their annual Coins for a Cause fundraiser to the outdoor classroom. Those same students proudly joined the ribbon-cutting ceremony, celebrating the impact of their contribution.
The new outdoor classroom provides flexible, accessible spaces for hands-on learning and exploration across all grade levels. It will also be used for staff training, community partnerships, and family events.
“It felt like the perfect way to expand on what already makes our school so special,” said PTO President Nicole Henry. “It is meaningful when we have a chance like this to partner with the school and influence the opportunities and experiences available for our students.”
