The Eastview High School Chess Team has captured its third consecutive state title at the Minnesota State Chess Association (MSCA) Scholastic State Tournament, held March 8–9 at the University of St. Thomas. In a tournament that made history, Eastview finished in a three-way tie for first place—the first time in the tournament’s 60-plus-year history that the state title has been shared among three teams.
Eastview earned 19.5 total points, matching the performances of Eden Prairie High School and Century High School to share the championship. The high school division featured roughly 130 players across 20 teams, part of a larger statewide event that drew K–12 students competing in seven rounds of two-hour matches over two days.
The MSCA Scholastic State Tournament is considered the pinnacle chess event for Minnesota students, crowning both individual and team champions across divisions: K–3, K–5, K–8, and high school. Only the top four individual scores count toward the team total, making every round a test of both individual skill and team depth. Eastview clinched the title by outlasting Minnetonka and Wayzata in the final round, with standout performances from:
- Kartik Saravanapandi – 9th place overall
- Suhaas Pothula – 17th place
- Ruveen Perera – 21st place
- Madhav Narayan – 27th place
Other team contributors included Nirav Singhal, Saharsh Srikanth, Keagen Valverde, Nadim Boulos, Xander Severson, Logan Konsor, Pranav Dwarakanath, Karthi Sella, Schuyler Nordby, Khiem Nguyen, Brandon Jones, Peter Pham, Anvith Pothula, and Rishik Kondadadi.
The team is coached by Eastview English teacher Mr. Dettmer, who praised the students for their stamina, focus, and sportsmanship over the grueling two-day competition.
