District 196 Spring Sports Highlights

Rosemount, Minn - District 196 student-athletes are turning in historic performances across the state this spring. From state championship sweeps to section titles and state tournament berths, here are the latest updates on our incredible teams and individuals. 

State Champions! Eastview Boys Volleyball Perfects the Recipe 

A massive congratulations to the Eastview High School Boys Volleyball team, who are officially the 2026 MSHSL State Champions! A year ago, the Eastview Boys Volleyball program learned exactly what it would take to win a state championship. After a third-place finish last season, the Lightning dedicated their entire year to refining their defense, playing relentless hustle volleyball, and mastering the little details.  That hard work paid off with a perfect 34-0 season, capped off in a thrilling 3-0 sweep (25-22, 27-25, 25-18) over defending champion Eden Prairie during the state finals at the University of St. Thomas. Three Lightning standouts were named to the State All-Tournament Team: Brice Dehnel, Jay Thammavongsa, and Colin Nathan. Rosemount Boys Baseball Advances to State Semifinals!

The Section 3AAAA Champion Rosemount High School Boys Baseball team is on a roll at the MSHSL Class AAAA State Tournament! After punching their ticket to state with a dominant 12-2 section final victory over cross-town rival Apple Valley High School, the Irish have advanced to a high-stakes semifinal matchup against Farmington, June 12 at 2:30 p.m.. A victory would send Rosemount to the State Championship game at Target Field on Monday, June 15 at 7:30 p.m.

Track and Field Stars Shine on the State Podium

Our District 196 track and field athletes put on an absolute show at the MSHSL State Track Meet at St. Michael-Albertville High School:

  • Adam Hanson (Rosemount High School) – 2nd Place in Shot Put
  • Ethan Wilske (Eagan High School) – 3rd Place in the 800 Meter Run
  • Luke Bakken (Eastview High School) – 3rd Place in the 1600 Meter Run
  • Channing Goodwin (Rosemount High School) – 3rd Place in the 3200 Meter Run
  • Abby Essler (Rosemount High School) - 2nd place in the Long Jump

Rosemount Captures 2026 Girls Flag Football State Title!

The Rosemount High School Girls Flag Football team left an undeniable mark on June 8 at TCO Stadium, capturing the 2026 Minnesota Girls Flag Football League Championship. The Irish capped off a spectacular run with a dominant 45-12 victory over the Rogers Royals in the title game. This landmark victory comes at a pivotal moment, as the push continues for official MSHSL sanctioning of girls flag football as an emerging high school sport in Minnesota. Eagan Girls Flag Football Wins Regionals, Headed to Nationals!

A massive congratulations to the Eagan High School Girls Flag Football team, who recently captured the NFL FLAG Regional Championship title! With this incredible victory, the Wildcats have officially earned a trip to compete in the NFL FLAG National Championship tournament in Indiana this July. Best of luck on the national stage, Eagan!

Elite Golfers Represent at State Tournament

The 2026 MSHSL State Golf Tournament has officially concluded at Bunker Hills, and District 196 golfers put on an incredible show against the finest players in Minnesota.

A special shoutout goes to Rosemount High School's Wyatt Holmes, who delivered a phenomenal performance to finish 5th overall in the state individual standings!

  • Boys Tournament: Alongside Holmes' top-5 finish, Mason Eaton and Max Waltman proudly represented Rosemount High School on the state stage to cap off fantastic seasons.
  • Girls Tournament: Alyssa Fitzgerald (Rosemount High School) and Morgan Melsa (Eagan High School) put on strong performances battling on the leaderboard.

Eagan Tennis Standouts Conclude State Run

The Class AA Minnesota State High School Tennis Tournament has wrapped up, and Eagan High School is incredibly proud of Will Gleason and Will Heidtke for representing the Wildcats on the state stage.

Competing against the top singles players in Minnesota, both athletes fought hard in highly competitive brackets. While they did not advance deep into the final rounds, qualifying for the state tournament is a major achievement that highlights their dedication and phenomenal seasons. Congratulations to Will and Will!

Dakota Hawks Sweep State Adapted Softball 

CI Division State Champions: Dakota United captured their third consecutive state title, shutting out New Prague 10-0 in the championship game on Saturday, May 16. The Hawks beat two undefeated teams on their journey to the top spot. Nolan St. Sauver, Myles Johnson, and Henry Knoof were named to the CI All-Tournament Team.

PI Division Third Place: The Hawks PI squad battled hard to secure third place overall in the state tournament. Standout players Chloe Shibata and Chelsea Ludvigson earned well-deserved positions on the PI All-Tournament Team.
