ROSEMOUNT, Minn. – The District 196 School Board elected Cory Johnson to serve as its chairperson for 2023 at the board’s annual organizational meeting Jan. 9. Johnson is in his fourth year on the board and served as vice chairperson last year.
Johnson takes over for Jackie Magnuson, who served as chair last year for the 15th time in her 34-year career on the District 196 School Board. The chair works with the superintendent to identify topics for board meeting agendas and runs all regular and special meetings of the board.
Board members elected to the other officer positions for 2023 are Sachin Isaacs, vice chairperson, Sakawdin Mohamed, clerk and Magnuson, treasurer.
The School Board holds regular meetings on Mondays at least once each month according to a schedule approved by the board. Regular board meetings begin at 6 p.m. at Dakota Ridge School, 4629 144th St. W., in Apple Valley. Video recordings of regular board meetings are streamed live on the District 196 YouTube page and are available on the district website and shown on the District 196 TV educational access channel.
The board occasionally holds special meetings to take action on time-sensitive items and to review information in greater depth. Monthly community listening sessions are also offered to give stakeholders a way to share concerns with up to three board members in a less formal setting than a regular board meeting.
