District 196 Fall Sports Highlights

Rosemount, Minn - District 196 congratulates its student-athletes and coaches for an outstanding fall season filled with success, teamwork, and state-qualifying accomplishments across multiple sports.

Congratulations to our State Champion Dakota Hawks, who won the state adapted soccer CI Division Championship defeating South Washington County 5-1 in the final Nov. 15. Dakota United (9-2-2) played in the CI Division final for the fifth consecutive year, winning the championship in 2025, 2024, 2012 and 2007. Sophomore Nolan St. Sauver, Myles Johnson and Oran Hill were named to the All-Tournament Team. [Read more about the Hawks’ season.] In PI Division, the Hawks won the consolation championship. Dakota United is a co-op program that includes Eastview, Apple Valley, Eagan and Rosemount high schools.

At the state Class AA girls swimming and diving meet, Apple Valley High School Senior Greta Marcott finished second in the 50-yard freestyle and 100 backstroke at the state finals Nov. 15 at the University of Minnesota. “I love setting goals, trying to break records, and swimming with my team,” she told the Sun This Week. She swam a personal record (PR) in the 100 during the state prelims. Apple Valley, Eastview and Rosemount high schools were all represented at the state championships.

In girls soccer, Eagan High School earned a fourth-place finish in the Class AAA State Tournament after a narrow 1-0 loss to Prior Lake in the third-place match. Sisters Tess and Stella Triplett were both named to the All-Tournament Team, highlighting their skill and contributions throughout the season. Ana Oenning and Tess Triplett were also named to the Class AAA All-State team. 

In boys soccer, Eagan High School advanced to the Class AAA State Tournament, where the Wildcats fell 2-1 to Maple Grove in a thrilling double-overtime quarterfinal match. Eagan’s John Tesdall was named to the All-Tournament Team for his strong play throughout the postseason. At Rosemount High School, several players and coaches earned top honors. Ethan Brown was recognized as a Mr. Soccer Finalist and earned All-State 3AAA First Team honors, while Carter You was selected to the All-State 3AAA Second Team. In addition, Rosemount Assistant Coach Karl Peterson was named the State Class AAA Assistant Coach of the Year, a testament to his leadership and impact on the Irish soccer program.

On the tennis courts, the Eagan High School girls tennis team finished fifth in the MSHSL Class AAA State Tournament. Senior Cassandra Li capped an impressive season by taking third place in the Class AAA individual singles state championship, defeating Olivia McDonald of Minneapolis Washburn 6-2, 6-0.

Several District 196 runners placed at the Minnesota State High School League Cross Country State Meet, held Nov. 1 at the University of Minnesota’s Les Bolstad Golf Course. On the girls side, both Eagan and Rosemount qualified full teams, while Apple Valley and Eastview sent individual qualifiers. In boys competition, Eastview and Rosemount each qualified teams for state, and Eagan was represented by individual qualifiers. The Rosemount boys team finished third in the Class AAA meet, capping a stellar season for the Irish.

In volleyball, the Apple Valley High School girls team finished third in the Class AAAA State Tournament, part of a South Suburban Conference Sweep of the State Tournament (Lakeville (1), Prior Lake (2), and Apple Valley (3). Juniors Ginny Gores and Sophia Cowan were named to the All-Tournament Team. Cowan was also named to the All-Minnesota Volleyball Team after an exceptional season in which she recorded a team-best 379 kills, leading the Eagles to their second consecutive Section 6AAAA championship.

District 196 celebrates the dedication, hard work, and achievements of all its student-athletes and coaches who proudly represented their schools and community this fall season.
