ATHLETICS

(NEW) BOYS CROSS COUNTRY – VARSITY 2ND, JV 3RD AT ROVN/BAUMAN INVITE

The boys cross country team competed well at yesterday’s Rovn/Bauman invite with a 3rd place JV finish and a 2nd place varsity finish.

In the JV race the Lightning looked strong. The trio of Ian Kenney (12th), Hunter Dunner (10th) and Grant Piller (11th) finished 1st, 3rd, and 8th respectively. The strength of the Lightning showed through over the penultimate k as the competition began to fade back as Kenney extended his lead, Dunne moved into 3rd, and Piller started picking his way up to 8th, all three holding their positions through the final k to help the Lightning finish in third place, missing the win by only 8 points.

Sophomore Max Leach had a roughly 1 minute PR to finish 4th for the team. Freshman Jack Hanson rounded out the top 5, leading a contingent of runners to PRs of roughly a minute. One of the biggest PRs of the day goes to freshman John Kronkvist with a 1:30 PR.

In the varsity race the Lightning were snake bitten when their top two runners were struck with bad luck in the race. Senior AJ Green was in his third consecutive battle with Chanhassan’s top runner when he was struck with the heat fading from 2nd place to finish 6th overall. Still a valiant effort. Junior Gabe Mahlen rolled his ankle in the 2nd mile to causing him to fall to 14th overall.. Morgenstern continued to battle moving into 10th place by the end of the race and running the second fastest time of his career. Juniors Sam Setterlund and Colby Rubischko finished 29th and 30th respectively. Sophomores Nate Getman and PJ Lasota finished 6th and 7th respectively in 17:42 and 17:44.

The Lightning are next in competition on Thursday, Sept 12th at the Rochester Mayo invite.

(NEW) BOYS JV SOCCER DEFEATS PRIOR LAKE

The Eastview boys JV soccer team had a strong showing at home on Thursday night against the Prior Lake Lakers. The Lightning were the first to score 10 minutes into the first half when defender Ryan Whalen’s free kick was tapped in by a Prior Lake defender. EV scored again when forward Cole Trinkle had a nice finish off a solid pass from mid-fielder Sean Harris (son of Neal Patrick Harris). This action put the Lightning ahead 2 to 0.

Within seconds of the end of the first half, the Lightning had to perform some quick acting in front of the net to keep their lead. Defender Max Hansen helped Sophmore goalie Samuel Dobkin keep the lead by jumping into the net for a couple of last second saves. The Lakers scored once, but the Lightning and Dobkin finished the first half with a 2 to 1 lead.

Eastview held on to its lead throughout the second half, with Junior Goalie Sam Perona keeping the Lakers scoreless in the second half. The Lightning earned their second straight victory with a 2 to 1 win and improved their record to 3-3-1 for the season to date.

EASTVIEW DEBATE

One of Eastview’s largest, most successful and most educational programs is our debate team.  I hope that all students consider joining our team this fall.  There are no tryouts or auditions, so this is a program that one can become involved with immediately.

1)      Our informational meetings are Tuesday, September 11, 2:35-3:15 PM in A300 and Wednesday, September 12, 7:10-7:25 AM in A300.  Students may attend either meeting.

2)        Debate is educationally powerful.  Check out the second and third pages to see  what some of our most successful alumni say about the team.

3)         Debate is a great way to get connected to Eastview High School.  We always advise freshmen to get involved.  Our door is open.

Feel free to talk to Mr. Hering any time (stop by room A308—my office—or e-mail me).

We look forward to growing our team this year and continuing our tradition of excellence.
