(NEW) EVCF SCHOLARSHIP ESSAY READERS WANTED

The Eastview Community Foundation is seeking community volunteers to read scholarship essays beginning February 10th. Volunteers will receive instructions on how to assess and score the essays during a short training session at EVHS. All essay reading and scoring can be completed at the convenience of volunteers in the comfort of their own homes. This is a 3-4 hour time commitment over the period of 1-2 weeks. Please note: volunteers cannot be a parent of a current senior at Eastview High School. Contact Laurel Gerber at Laurel.Gerber@evcf.org for more information.

The District 196 FeePay system is back online, however, Sourcewell has informed us that families may still experience some intermittent disruptions with this transition. They have provided guidance for the most common situations that occur.

SECOND SEMESTER PARKING PASSES

Second semester (February 3rd-June 10^th) parking passes are available for purchase on FeePay. The passes are valid through the last day of school and are $120. The parking permits can be picked up at the West Entrance Security Office by showing your FeePay receipt.

We are unable to take checks or cash for parking permits; all permits are sold on FeePay.

BINGO BONANZA

Do I have a BINGO?! YES!!! The Senior Party’s biggest fundraiser is back!! There will be fabulous prizes to be won playing BINGO along with raffle drawings, rounding out a great evening for parents, friends and family of EVHS. This year’s event will be held on Sunday, March 1st at Bogarts from 4pm to 7pm. For $45 you get 10 BINGO cards, 3 Raffle Tickets and Appetizers. Our BINGO BONANZA will also host a Silent Auction with lots of great items for you to bid on using your smartphone! More information and the registration form can be found here. Graduating seniors are invited to attend the 2020 All-Night Senior Party, a chemical-free lock-in, which takes place the night of graduation, June 6, 2020 (10:00 pm – 4:00 am) at EVHS. Each year this party is a highlight for the graduating seniors with at least 80% of the class attending. Students will enjoy activities, food, music, games, prizes, and more!! It is the place to be on graduation night!

INFORMATION NIGHT FOR FAMILIES & FRIENDS OF AFRICAN AMERICAN STUDENTS

Our District 196 African American Cultural Family Advocates are hosting an information night for families and friends of African American Students on Thursday, February 6^th from 5:30pm – 7:30pm at Oak Ridge Elementary School of Leadership, Environment and Health Sciences, 4350 Johnny Cake Ridge Rd, Eagan, MN 55122. Everyone is welcome to attend for a light meal and conversation. The National African American Parent Involvement Day is Monday, February 10^th and this will be discussed. The next two meetings will be Thursday, March 5 at Apple Valley High School and in May at Falcon Ridge Middle School.

Mark Aronson, District 196 learning and technology/math coach, has an MA in elementary education from Rockhurst University, and Jenny Huling, District 196 teaching and learning specialist, has an MA in learning technology from University of St Thomas. Both have been instrumental in the implementation and training of the one-to-one technology initiative in District 196.

UPCOMING COLLEGE, UNIVERSITY & MILITARY VISITS

Students should stop by the Counseling Office get a pass to attend the college/university/military Rep Visit prior to the visit in Career Center (located right next to Counseling Office). These university/college or military visits are small group meetings typically lasting 20/30 minutes. These admission reps are often times the same people that review college applications, so it's a great connection for students.

The Men’s Track & Field Preseason meeting will be held this Thursday, February 6th in Room C250. Two options to attend; before school at 7:00am, or after school at 2:30pm.

(NEW) BOYS GOLF INFO MEETING

Attention Boys Golfers: There will be an informational meeting for all non-returning boys golfers on Wednesday, February 19^th at 2:30pm in C250. Information regarding tryouts, practice and tournament schedule, off-season training and team expectations will be covered. If you are unable to attend please see Coach Wanous in the Counseling Office any time after the 19^th for the information. Tryouts begin March 16^th.

(NEW) POST-SEASON UPDATES 2.4.20 CONGRATS TO OUR SECTION CHAMPS AND STATE QUALIFIERS!

On an absolutely beautiful and sunny February day the Eastview Nordic Ski teams competed in their Section Tournament at Hyland and the Eastview Alpine Ski teams competed in their Sections at Buck Hill which officially began the start of our Winter Sports Post-Season! All teams and kids gave it their all on a long day of skiing. There were some definite highlights including the Eastview Girls Nordic Team being crowned Section Champions for the second year in a row and headed back to State for the 7^th straight year! They will compete at Giant’s Ridge in Biwabik next Thursday! It was an incredibly tight race for 1^st place and the girls picked the right day for their best races of the season! Scoring points for the Lightning were Seniors Gabby Kraemer (2^nd Overall), Josie Roberts (9^th) and Claire Nack (13^th) along with 8^th Grader Emily Percival (17^th). Others skiing today for Eastview were Junior Mara Ristow (31^st), Senior Darby O’Neil (35^th) and Freshman Sonja Olson (37^th) and Varsity alternates included Junior Kate Helou, Sophomore Ava Kerndt and 8^th Grader Liza Kerndt. Congrats to all team members on a fantastic accomplishment!

In addition to Girls Nordic being Statebound, Boys Alpine Ski Team member junior Ryan Whalen finished 9^th and is headed to State as an individual and will compete at Giant’s Ridge in Biwabik next Wednesday! Congrats to all involved on all four of these teams on fantastic seasons and good luck to those heading to State next week!

COLLEGE FOOTBALL COMMITMENT CEREMONY

The Eastview Football Program will recognize seniors who have made the commitment to play college football on Wednesday, February 5. This ceremony will be held in the Eastview Learning Commons starting at 2:40 pm this Wednesday. All are invited as we recognize 7 senior players.

EVHS GIRLS GOLF TEAM INTEREST / INFO MEETING

There is a parent/player informational meeting on February 10^th in the Learning Commons starting at 7:00 PM.

Information will be shared about each of the 3 teams: Varsity, JV, and JV Blue (the developmental team). All playing abilities are welcome- grades 9-12.

We’ll also share clothing and Booster Club information (bring your checkbook), along with details about the season.

BOYS AND GIRLS SPRING RUGBY

Spring rugby registration is now open for girls and boys. Rugby teaches total body skills, including safe tackling techniques, which carry over in to multiple sports. Preseason (indoor) practice begins on March 1^st at Blackhawk Middle School Gym (1-3PM for boys, 4:30-6:30 for girls). We have a full day camp on Friday, March 6th from 9-3 at the West St. Paul dome. (NEW) EASTVIEW HIGH SCHOOL BOYS JUNIOR VARSITY BASKETBALL BEAT BURNSVILLE 79-45

The Eastview JV Boys Basketball team won 79-45 over Burnsville on Tuesday night. The Blaze opened the game to take a 8-2 lead before the Lightning offense heated up and went on an 18-2 run to take the lead behind Aryan Kohli's four three-pointers. A ten point game at halftime, Jamal Ambrose's 18 points in the second half sparked an offensive jump start to extend the lead. Kohli finished with 14 points, Matt Plotnik had 8 points, Kenji Scales with 8 points, and Payton Kosiorek 7 points. The Lightning improve to 16-3 overall and 9-2 in the conference. Next up is a home game against Lakeville North on Friday. Go, Lightning!

(NEW) EASTVIEW HIGH SCHOOL BOYS JUNIOR VARSITY BASKETBALL BEAT EAGAN HIGH SCHOOL 48-32

The Eastview JV Boys Basketball beat Eagan 48-32 on Friday night. The Lightning defense was very strong with pesky on the ball defense, rebounding, and making team defensive stops. Kenji Scales led the offense with 14 points in the first half, Aryan Kohli with 12 points, and Jamal Ambrose with 12 points. The Lightning improve to 15-3 overall and 8-2 in the conference. Go Lightning!

ARTS & ACTIVITIES

(NEW) VOICES SUBMISSION DRIVE MEETING

Voices will be having a submissions drive meeting this Thursday, Feb. 5^th at 2:35 in C331. We’ll be making envelopes, posters and creating submissions drive information that will go out to English and art classes. We’d love to see you for about an hour after school! MENS VOLLEYBALL OPEN GYM

Mens’ volleyball has an open gym this Tuesday night at 6:30 pm in the South Gym! The season is coming soon…if you’re wanting to test it out, come on down. If you want to get an edge for the start of season, come on down. Learn some skills and play some volleyball!

A NIGHT OF ANCIENT TALES- EASTVIEW’S WINTER AND ONE ACT PLAYS

Join us for a Night of Ancient Tales, as Eastview’s Performing Arts Department presents two plays; Antigone and Tales From Odysseus.

Performance dates are February 20, 21, and 22 at 7PM in the Eastview Performing Arts Center. All tickets are general admission and are available at the Box Office starting one hour before showtime. Ticket prices are Adults: $7 and Senior Citizens/Students: $5.

Antigone:

It takes guts to stand up to the most powerful man in the country. Especially when you’re 15. After both of her brothers kill each other in opposing sides of a war, Antigone dares to defy her uncle, King Creon, by burying her ‘traitor’ brother. When Creon discovers that Antigone has performed the burial despite his command, he orders her to be walled up in a cave alive thus starving her to death. Creon does not listen to the pleadings of Ismene, Antigone’s sister, nor his son Haemon, who is engaged to Antigone. Haemon goes to Antigone’s cave, sees that she has hung herself and kills himself as well. Hearing this, his mother also takes her own life at the fateful end of this Greek tragedy.

The Search For Odysseus:

The Search for Odysseus tells the story of the Odyssey, from the point of view of Telemachus, his son. After the Trojan War, Odysseus does not return with the other soldiers, and Telemachus sets out to find him and in so doing embarks on a voyage of self discovery.

The Learning Commons has recently received three significant donations of common household/garage goods from our wish list. We were able to further stock our makerspace and shared some of the supplies with the applied math classes. Thank you for your generous donations to build our Zapp Lab and other hands on work spaces!

We have added a few new items to our wish list, but have a special request. As your family may be upgrading your phone technology, please consider donating old phones to the Learning Commons. We have a set of Google Cardboard Virtual Reality headsets, but no devices to project the videos. The minimum requirement is simply a functioning phone which can connect to the internet. We will be able to access hundreds of virtual tours with minimal investment and provide students with a whole new way to interact with rich learning opportunities.
