Within our student body, the DP program aims to educate and inform students, as well as encourage safe and healthy decisions regarding the use of vapes. Students will also be encouraged to seek help if they are concerned they or a friend are addicted to vaping.

ATHLETICS

ATHENA AWARD WINNER - CLAUDIA DOUGAN

Congratulations to Eastview senior Claudia Dougan for being named Eastview High School’s recipient of the Athena Award in 2019-20. Claudia has become the most decorated swimmer in the history of the program. She is a 6 time letter winner, 5 time All-Conference selection, 2 time All-State Honoree with 4 straight State Tournament Appearances. She was Section 3AA Swimmer of the year, 4 time team MVP, Section Champion in the 200 and 100 Freestyle in both 2018 and 2019, holds 4 school records for Eastview in the 200 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 50 freestyle, and 400 freestyle relay.  A couple of those records had stood since 1998. She set 4 individual Eastview Pool records in 2019 in the 200 freestyle, 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, and 100 butterfly, along with 3 pool records at other schools.  She was the State Runner-up this past fall in both the 100 and 200 Free and also helped anchor the 400 Free Relay to a 5th place and All-State podium finish.  She has signed a National Letter of Intent to swim at the University of Kansas. Claudia is also a strong student with a 3.7 GPA while taking 4 AP courses in her Senior year.  The Athena Award is awarded to the “outstanding senior female athlete” in each school. The award is based on excellence in individual sports or for participation and accomplishments in team sports. Athena is the Goddess of Wisdom and Skills. She was brave and possessed the essence of all that is noble. Legend tells us that she possessed the gifts of dignity, power, and youth, making her invincible. Claudia will be recognized at the St. Paul Athena Award banquet on Wednesday, April 22nd. Congratulations to Claudia and all of our Athena Award finalists on such outstanding careers at Eastview and a huge thanks to all who helped with this very challenging selection process.

LEARNING COMMONS

THANK YOU & NEW WISH LIST ITEMS

The Learning Commons has recently received three significant donations of common household/garage goods from our wish list.  We were able to further stock our makerspace and shared some of the supplies with the applied math classes.  Thank you for your generous donations to build our Zapp Lab and other hands on work spaces!

We have added a few new items to our wish list, but have a special request. As your family may be upgrading your phone technology, please consider donating old phones to the Learning Commons.  We have a set of Google Cardboard Virtual Reality headsets, but no devices to project the videos.  The minimum requirement is simply a functioning phone which can connect to the internet.  We will be able to access hundreds of virtual tours with minimal investment and provide students with a whole new way to interact with rich learning opportunities.  Check out a sample video here and even more amazing with virtual reality!
