All Eastview students are invited to participate in Advancing the Dream: a Black History Month Essay-Art-Oratory Contest.  Taking inspiration from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s famous “I Have a Dream” speech, respond to the following prompt: Is the dream alive today the way Dr. King envisioned it?  What would he think of the moment in which we are living?  What are our collective next steps in keeping that vision alive?  What role can each of us play in advancing the cause of justice and equity in society and in our school?   What action(s) will you take in your daily life to carry out Dr. King’s dream?  Students may choose to write an essay, poetry or prose, create an original piece of art, or record yourself speaking or singing.    There will be a $50 prize in each of the three categories.  Entries are due Friday, February 28th.    More information can be found in the Schoology announcement.  See Ms. Hanson in the Student Services Office with questions.

(NEW) BOYS VARSITY HOCKEY FALLS TO ST. THOMAS ACADEMY 5-0

The Boys Varsity Hockey team concluded their season with a playoff loss to St. Thomas Academy by a score of 5-0.  After an intense and scoreless first period, STA was able to score twice in the second period to lead 2-0.  The Lighting gave it everything they had in the third period, but were unable to dent the twine as the buzzer sounded.  The squad finished with an overall record of 13-12-1 and will always be remembered as a team who did “whatever it takes” for their teammates!  This also concluded the careers of 14 outstanding seniors.  Good luck to seniors Ben Malloy, Caden EspindaBanick, Drew Carroll, Dylan Abboud, Joshua Eernisse, Cullen Johnson, Alex Chesek, Will Leach, Caden Berg, Jake Kemper, Ryan Quaintance, and Bennett Weestrand.  This group of seniors displayed outstanding dedication to the hockey program, commitment in the classroom, exceptional leadership skills, and were positive role models in the community.  A big shout out to Regan Cronk and Emma Nichols for their help as student assistants for the past two seasons as well.  Thank you goes out to the superfans, parents, and relatives who supported this group throughout their Eastview hockey careers.

NIGHT OF ANCIENT TALES- EASTVIEW’S WINTER AND ONE ACT PLAYS

Join us for a Night of Ancient Tales, as Eastview’s Performing Arts Department presents two plays; Antigone  and Tales From Odysseus.

Performance dates are February 20, 21, and 22 at 7PM in the Eastview Performing Arts Center.  All tickets are general admission and are available at the Box Office starting one hour before showtime.  Ticket prices are Adults: $7 and Senior Citizens/Students: $5.

Antigone:

It takes guts to stand up to the most powerful man in the country. Especially when you’re 15. After both of her brothers kill each other in opposing sides of a war, Antigone dares to defy her uncle, King Creon, by burying her ‘traitor’ brother. When Creon discovers that Antigone has performed the burial despite his command, he orders her to be walled up in a cave alive thus starving her to death. Creon does not listen to the pleadings of Ismene, Antigone’s sister, nor his son Haemon, who is engaged to Antigone. Haemon goes to Antigone’s cave, sees that she has hung herself and kills himself as well. Hearing this, his mother also takes her own life at the fateful end of this Greek tragedy.

The Search For Odysseus:

The Search for Odysseus tells the story of the Odyssey, from the point of view of Telemachus, his son. After the Trojan War, Odysseus does not return with the other soldiers, and Telemachus sets out to find him and in so doing embarks on a voyage of self discovery.

LEARNING COMMONS

THANK YOU & NEW WISH LIST ITEMS

The Learning Commons has recently received three significant donations of common household/garage goods from our wish list.  We were able to further stock our makerspace and shared some of the supplies with the applied math classes.  Thank you for your generous donations to build our Zapp Lab and other hands on work spaces!

We have added a few new items to our wish list, but have a special request. As your family may be upgrading your phone technology, please consider donating old phones to the Learning Commons.  We have a set of Google Cardboard Virtual Reality headsets, but no devices to project the videos.  The minimum requirement is simply a functioning phone which can connect to the internet.  We will be able to access hundreds of virtual tours with minimal investment and provide students with a whole new way to interact with rich learning opportunities.  Check out a sample video here and even more amazing with virtual reality!

WHAT'S HAPPENING IN THE LEARNING COMMONS
