ATHLETICS

(NEW) BOYS CROSS COUNTRY 3RD AT VICTORIA LIONS INVITE

The Lightning Cross Country team competed in the windy, cold, sleeting, raining, puddling, muddy, and wonderful fall weather at the Victoria Lions Invite in Chaska. The rain started to fall just as the team departed the bus and only let up as the team returned to the bus 3 hours later. In the interim the Lightning competed against some of the state’s best teams.

Leading the day off was the boys JV race where the team finished in 5th place. They were lead by sophomore Hunter Dunne who finished in 2nd place overall with a time of 17:27.5. Junior Grant Piller had a solid performance in 18:29 finishing in 29th overall while Sophomore PJ LaSota ran 18:11 and finished in 18th.

The JV race had 14 of the 15 Eastview runners break 20 min while 7 of them ran personal best times. Running under 20 min for the first time were freshmen Thomas Adamson, Charley Setterlund, sophomore Ethan Taylor, junior Logan O’Neil, and senior Jacob Waschek. Sophomore Max Leach broke the 19 min barrier for the first time running 18:59.

In the varsity race the Lightning finished in 3rd place, beating conference rivals Prior Lake in a tie break. The Lightning were lead by AJ Green who finished in 4th place overall. In his return to racing junior Gabe Mahlen finished in 9th place, and senior teammate Sam Morgenstern took 11th. The Lightning faced off against three of the top teams in the state, finishing 1 pt behind the #1 ranked team in the state.

The last race of the day was the JV-C race which was a massive herd of boys and girls all running together. The course was nothing more than slippery mud and standing water by this time. There was more counting of how many runners slipped and fell, than there was of what place you finished. In his first race in three weeks sophomore Alex Vincent ran a PR race finishing in 20:40ish (by this time in the race the timing mat was underwater and no longer functioning). Sophomore John Kronkvist also handled the conditions admirably running right at his PR time of 24 min. Running in these conditions was more about the memories than the time. So, there were not many PRs the boys came home with, but certainly quite a bit of laundry that will need to be taken care of.

The Lightning are next in competition on Friday, Oct 11th at Eagan High School in the South Suburban Conference Championship. Come out and support the Lightning as they try to defend their conference title!

(NEW) VARSITY BOYS SOCCER LIGHTNING FALL TO SHAKOPEE 1-3

Goalkeeper Elliot Brown had numerous saves in goal, keeping the Lightning in the game, but Shakopee managed to score again.  The next game is away against Eagan at 5pm on Thursday.

(NEW) BOYS JV SOCCER TEAM HANDLES SHAKOPEE IN THE RAIN

On a cold, wet field down in Shakopee last night, your Eastview Lightning boys JV soccer team outplayed and outlasted the Shakopee Sabers. In spite of the wet conditions, Eastview controlled the ball well and had several opportunities to score. Midfielder Sean Harris was hot in spite of the cold and scored Eastview’s first goal late in the first half. Goalie Sam Perona defended the net well and helped put Eastview into a 1 to 0 lead at half.

Sophomore goalie Sam Dobkin had a solid second half with numerous saves. Eastview took a commanding lead in the second when Harris put in his second goal of the evening to put the Lightning ahead 2 to 0.  Eastview was scored on late in the second but ended the evening with a solid 2 to 1 victory against Shakopee.
