ATHLETICS

(NEW) EASTVIEW ATHLETICS POSTSEASON UPDATES

Boys and Girls Cross Country: The Cross Country teams competed in the SSC Championships in windy and frigid conditions on Friday afternoon at Eagan and performed extremely well!  The Boys finished 2nd as a team and had 4 All Conference and 3 Honorable Mention athletes including the SSC Individual Champion, AJ Green!  The Girls finished 7th as a team and had 1 All Conference and 2 Honorable Mention athletes along with several other great performances from all Varsity and JV Competitors.  The Section 3AA Cross Country Championships will be held on Thursday, October 24th at Valleywood Golf Course starting at 3:30.

Boys and Girls Soccer:  The Girls Soccer team played a fantastic game in the first round of Sections last Tuesday, but lost 3-2 in overtime at Hastings and saw their season come to an end.  The Boys Soccer team continues to have a great season as they were the South Suburban Conference Champions for the 4th time in school history!  They are the #1 Seed in Section 3AA and defeated Rosemount 3-0 in the Quarterfinals and Cretin-Derham Hall 3-0 in the Semis.  They will face Apple Valley in the Section Championship game on Tuesday at Hastings McNamara Stadium at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday.  Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for students with no passes accepted in the postseason.  The winner will advance to the State Tournament with the opening round to be played sometime between October 22-24 in the evening at a neutral site TBD.

Girls Tennis: The Lightning Girls Tennis team completed an incredible “Team” season last Thursday.  The Girls were the South Suburban Conference Champions for the second time in school history, and first time since 2003!  The girls were the #3 Seed in the highly competitive Section 6AA and they advanced to the Section Championship Match with a thrilling 4-3 win in the Semis at #2 Seed Benilde St. Margaret’s.  In the finals the girls played fantastic tennis, but fell to #1 in the Section and #1 in the State, Edina, by a 5-2 score.  The Individual Section Tournament will begin on Monday and conclude on Tuesday with the top singles and doubles teams advancing to State on Oct. 24-25 at the U of M.  The Section and State Tournaments for tennis take place during the school day so those involved will not be in school.

Football, Girls Swim and Dive and Volleyball: Football wraps up their regular season on Wednesday vs. Rosemount (Game will be played at Lakeville North due to poor field conditions at Rosemount), Girls Swim and Dive has two more home meets (Tuesday the 15th and Tuesday the 22nd) at Falcon Ridge before Sections and Volleyball is coming off a 4th place finish in their Invite over the weekend and wraps up their regular season at home on Tuesday vs. Lakeville South.  Stay tuned for updates on these teams postseason schedule.

CI and PI Soccer: These teams each still have three weeks remaining in their regular seasons before Sections and State!  Stay tuned for the latest Hawks updates.

(NEW) BOYS CROSS COUNTRY FINISHES 2ND AT CONFERENCE MEET

The boys cross country team finished second at today’s South Suburban Conference Championship race in both the JV and Varsity competitions. The JV race kicked off in the blustery cold weather at 3:30 pm, with the course having some slick muddy spots from the previous days’ rain and a few standing puddles. As the gun went off the Lightning athletes laid off the pace up front, choosing to instead work their way up throughout the race in a steady progression.

The lead group of  senior Ian Kenney, sophomore PJ Lasota and senior Brendan Wilhelm finished in 4th – 6th place. With 300m left, junior Grant Piller found himself in a battle with 6 other runners, but he was able to use his strength and speed to outkick them into the finish taking home 17th place. Freshman Jack Hanson cemented his place in the top 5 JV runners by running a massive PR of over a minute to finish in 18:34.1, and confidently working his way into 19th place. Other runners who ran personal best times of over a minute today include Alex Vincent, Eli Munson, Ryan Brandel, Chet Kloss, David Schindler, Kayser Hassan, John Kronkvist, Taylor Hawkins and Ian Young.

In the varsity race the Lightning had a similarly conservative start as the JV racers. In the final mile the race began to thin as runners couldn’t handle the pace that was being run, while the Lightning maintained their position and started to close the gaps that had developed over the first two miles. Senior AJ Green continued to run just off the shoulder of the leader until their was about 500m left when he made a push for the lead. The leader battled with Green for 200m in a back and forth struggle until Green was able to create a gap of 5 meters rounding into the final turn. With the finish line in sight he poured on the gas and lit a fire on the course to win his third conference championship across track (800, 1600) and cross country (5k). Senior Sam Morgenstern was the next runner in for the Lightning choosing to wait, like Green, until the final 500m to put on his signature kick and use his strength to power by several runners finishing in 8th place. Junior Gabe Mahlen found a second wind with 200m to go and passed 5 runners to finish in 11th place.

Juniors Sam Setterlund and Colby Rubischko were the next in for the Lighting in 20th and 23rd place. Rounding out the varsity team were sophomores Hunter Dunne and Nate Getman who finished in 30th and 31st place respectively.

Thank you to the alumni, alumni parents, fans, and family who came out in support of the Lightning today. The cross country team is next in competition at Valley Wood Golf Course in Apple Valley on October 24th for the section 3AA meet.

(NEW) GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY COMPETES AT SCC CONFERENCE MEET

The South Suburban Conference Cross Country meet was cold, windy and wet. That did not stop Miranda Kerndt from placing 20th and earning All- Conference Honors. She was followed closely by 8th grader Emily Percival and 9th grader Sonja Olson, both earning All- Conference Honorable Mention.

The JV squad finished 8th, running a number of personal records for this meet.

(NEW) EASTVIEW VARSITY BOYS SOCCER BEATS CRETIN DERHAM HALL 3-0 IN SECTION SEMI FINAL GAME

On Thursday night your Lightning took on the Cretin-Derham Hall Raiders. The weather was cold, wet, and windy, but there were many fans watching in the stands. Goals were scored by Senior Owen Johnson, Senior River Alaqidy, and Senior Jacob Salmon.  Come cheer on your Lightning on Tuesday October 15 when they compete in the Section Final.

6TH MAN CLUB MEETING

The 6th Man Club meeting for October will be next Monday, October 14 at 7pm in the Student Commons.  If the commons is busy or loud, we'll find another location, and will have signs at the West Doors.

All are welcome, and we have a lot to plan; if you're able and available, we'd love to have you join us.  We still have a number of leadership possibilities, so if you're thinking you'd like to get more involved, Monday's meeting is for you!

Hope to see you all there.

FALL SPORTS SURVEY FOR PARENTS/ATHLETES

Attention all Fall Sport Student-Athletes and parents of all Fall Student-Athletes:  Many of our Fall sports have concluded their seasons and all of our Fall sports will be wrapping up in the coming weeks.  We ask that each student-athlete as well as parent/guardians of student-athletes take the time to fill out their survey:
