Algebra 2
Welcome to Algebra 2!
This packet is intended to prepare you for the course and ensure that your prerequisite skills are strong enough to be successful in Algebra 2. The packet is lengthy, so please start early. While many of the exercises cover basic algebra skills, you will encounter a few tough exercises. Your algebra 2 teachers are expecting you to come to class with the packet completed and ready to ask questions. There are many resources on the internet that you can use in case you do not remember a topic, or better yet, use your notes from Geometry and Intermediate Algebra!
The packet is due on the first day of school and will be worth many homework points! There will also be a test covering the content in this packet during the first week of school.

AP Biology
AP BIOLOGY SUMMER ASSIGNMENTS
DO NOTHING UNTIL JULY 1, 2020- THEN READ 20 MINUTES/DAY
There is considerable breadth and depth in the AP Biology course, yet our course time (early September to early May) is relatively condensed. Therefore, I strongly suggest completing the following work over the summer prior to our first day of AP Chemistry next year.
SCHOOLOGY: The access code to Reading guides, Activity guides, and other course material on Schoology is S428T-FBMBR . I strongly recommend that you use these items to gain comprehension over the summer.
There will be an assessment on assigned work during the first week of school. The test is a measure of your basic understanding of the summer reading to guide the first term curriculum. Full comprehension of all principles is not necessary or required. Do not try and memorize material, rather get a basic understanding of the chapter concepts listed at the start of each chapter.

AP Calculus AB
Welcome to AP Calculus AB! This packet is intended to prepare you for the course by:
• Reviewing prerequisite algebra and pre-calculus skills.
• Covering Chapter 1 of the calculus textbook. (With the amount of curriculum to be covered before the AP Exam in May, we need to cover this review chapter before the school year.)
It is due on the first day of school and worth 20 homework points. During the first two weeks of school, there will be Summer Packet assessments covering this review content.
The packet is lengthy, so please start early. While many of the exercises cover basic algebra skills, you will encounter a few tough exercises. If you need assistance completing this packet, please email us and we can schedule a Zoom with you!
Have a wonderful and relaxing summer! We are looking forward to delving into the study and exploration of a branch of mathematics which has been referred to as “one of the supreme accomplishments of the human intellect.” Calculus truly is a fascinating course—you will love it!

AP Chemistry
AP Chemistry Summer Assignments
Thank you for attending the Pre-Summer Assignment Zoom Session for AP Chemistry in early June. You received the handout listing the study assignments and support information at that time. The “practice exam” that we mentioned can be found in the attachment at the bottom of this page.
If you did not attend this Zoom session, please contact Mr. Meyer soon (steve.meyer@district196.org). It is important that we connect so that you understand the expectations for this course and have access to all the materials that you need to be a fully-engaged member of the AP Chem 2020-21 Team.
Looking for study buddies? Please e-mail Mr. Meyer to receive a class roster.
Attached is the practice exam.

AP European History/AP World History
Students registered for AP World/European History may be interested in reading the following book throughout the summer, it is recommended but not required:
A History of the World in 6 Glasses by Tom Standage.
Beer, wine, spirits, coffee, tea, and Coca-Cola: In Tom Standage’s deft, innovative account of world history, these six beverages turn out to be much more than just ways to quench thirst. They also represent six eras that span the course of civilization―from the adoption of agriculture, to the birth of cities, to the advent of globalization. A History of the World in 6 Glasses tells the story of humanity from the Stone Age to the twenty-first century through each epoch’s signature refreshment. As Standage persuasively argues, each drink is in fact a kind of technology, advancing culture and catalyzing the intricate interplay of different societies. After reading this enlightening book, you may never look at your favorite drink in quite the same way again. (from BN.com)
Students interested in reading the book are responsible for obtaining their own copy… we will create an opportunity for students to discuss the text when classes begin in September.
If you have questions, please feel free to reach out via email to any of the AP World/European History teachers listed below:

AP US History/Honors Am Lit
Message to 2020-2021 AP US History Students:
Thanks to everyone who is taking on the challenge of AP US History next school year. As we grapple with a pandemic, racial injustice, rioting, and an economic crisis, it is increasingly clear that we must learn and apply lessons from history.
There will be no summer assignment this year for AP US History. This affords you a true break from distance learning and will allow all of us to start together at the same place on day 1 of school this fall.
If you’re looking for ways to get started on US history this summer, I suggest selecting a book from the local library on a subject that looks interesting, viewing a documentary or movie on a historical topic, or engaging more in current affairs through good news sources.
Feel free to reach out to me via email this summer at Todd.Hering@District196.org.
Wishing you a safe and healthy summer,
Mr. Hering-AP US History Teacher

Honors English 9/Honors American Citizenship & Government
These assignments prepare students for the rigor and pace expected for honors programming at Eastview. Relevant to Honors American Citizenship and Government, this summer work will help prepare students for the curriculum that will be introduced to them during the first part of the school year. Relevant to Honors English 9 the reading and writing assignment required for this course will help students understand the expectations for analytical writing that will be required throughout the course to support and enhance the reading comprehension of the text.
Please review the assignments and be aware of the due dates for these assignments. Students are expected to meet these due dates with a level of proficiency equal to those of a student well suited for honors programming at EVHS.
