Grading Scale/GPA:

Eastview teachers use a traditional grading scale to determine end-term grades.  Student grade point average is determined by calculating the average of all quarter grades earned. All courses are included except those for which a P (Pass), NC (No Credit) or NG (No Grade) is assigned. There are no weighted grades in the grade point average calculation (per district policy).

Pass/Grade Option:

Students may take ONE .75-credit course per quarter on a Pass/Grade (P/Grade) basis.

This option allows students to explore interests and challenge themselves without the risk of a low grade negatively affecting their cumulative GPA.

BEFORE YOU APPLY — IMPORTANT

Students must:

• Talk with their teacher, counselor, and parent/guardian before applying.
• Submit the online application by the mid-term deadline:
  • Q1: October 2     |     Q2: December 18     |     Q3: February 26     |     Q4: May 14
• Select ONLY ONE course per term on the application. Requests for multiple courses will not be considered.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

To be eligible for the Pass (P) option, students must:

• Complete all major assessments and assignments.
• Participate in daily classwork and learning activities throughout the entire quarter.
• Earn 60% or higher in the course.

AT THE END OF THE QUARTER

Students earning 60% or higher may choose the letter grade earned OR Pass (P).  The default is the letter grade earned. Students must request the P option if they want a Pass instead.  A grade below 60% results in an F and cannot be changed to a Pass.

IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS

• A Pass (P) is not included in GPA calculations.
• A Pass (P) in an Honors or AP course makes the course ineligible for inclusion in honors designation courses and may result in the loss of an honors designation upon graduation.
• Dropping or being removed from a course after the deadline listed above will result in an F.
• The NCAA recognizes a Pass (P) as a D- in core academic courses when determining academic eligibility.

FINAL STEP — SUBMIT YOUR SIGNED FORM

Within ONE WEEK of the online application deadline, submit the signed form to the Counseling Office.  

• To do this, print the email confirmation form that is sent to your @apps account and obtain signatures on the paper copy of the form. 
• Your application is NOT COMPLETE until the signed form is submitted.
• Applications missing required signatures or the signed form will NOT be considered complete, and the Pass (P) option will NOT be valid.

Academic Achievement Recognition:

Students in grades 9-12 at Eastview High School will be eligible for academic achievement awards in one or more of the following categories:

Category 1:

Academic Lettering Students in grades 9-12 will be awarded an academic letter based on the attainment of a specified GPA during a specified period of time. Students must meet ONE of the following criteria:

a) Attainment of a "cumulative GPA" as follows (measured after the third quarter each year): '

• 9th graders: 3.800 or higher (3.700 or higher with Honors)
• 10th graders: 3.666 or higher (3.566 or higher with Honors)
• 11th graders: 3.666 or higher (3.566 or higher with Honors)
• 12th graders: 3.500 or higher (3.400 or higher with Honors)

b) Four consecutive quarters with a quarter GPA = 3.666 or higher (measured during any four consecutive quarters within or across grade levels).

Category 2:

Improvement in Quarter GPA Students in grades 9-12 who show at least a .75 improvement in their quarter GPA (from one quarter to the next, within or across grade levels) will be awarded a letter of recognition for this achievement.
