AVID at EVHS
Advancement Via Individual Determination
The Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program is a college preparatory program that implements research-based strategies and rigorous curriculum at all grade levels to help students reach their full potential. AVID aims to close the achievement and opportunity gaps and is targeted toward students who are historically under-represented in four-year colleges and universities. These highly-collaborative, student-centered learning environments allow educators and students to set high expectations and confidently conquer academic and social-emotional challenges.
Through the AVID program at District 196, students explore and develop the skills necessary for success in 21st-century educational and career settings. Students who participate in the AVID program graduate high school and attend collage and higher rates. But more importantly, they think critically, work collaboratively and push beyond their outer limits.
For more detailed information about the AVID program, visit the AVID website.
The AVID College Readiness System is an academic regularly scheduled elective class during the school day. The curriculum is based on writing and critical thinking and reading, inquiry, and collaborative learning strategies. The three main components are:
- Academic instruction
- Tutorial support
- College Readiness
