The Eastview Speech Team has produced over 23 state champions and eight National Forensic League Champions since 1997. Since its inception as a school, Eastview’s Speech Team has been named a National School of Excellence multiple times. It is a testament to the determination of the students as well as the coaching staff.
Eastview’s Speech Team participates in the 13 MSHSL sanctioned categories. The 13 categories each require different skill sets ranging from informative-style speaking to interpreting a humorous piece of drama. Each category is meant to teach students life-long skills that they can use in their future endeavors.
Speech season begins with auditions in mid-November. Students generally have one 30 minute practice with the primary coach during the week. Invitational tournaments are held on Saturdays and begin mid-January and last until the middle of March. After the invitational season the top 39 team members participate in the region tournament where they have a chance at advancing to the state tournament. The state tournament is held in April at rotating sites around the state of Minnesota.
